Build Up Event – Lagos
Great journeys begin long before the first pedal stroke. Prior to the official launch, Rtn. Olatunji Emmanuel Okedeyi traveled from the United Kingdom to Lagos, Nigeria, to build vital stakeholder support for the campaign.
His immediate priority was securing institutional backing from the Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee, meeting with top leaders to align strategies for maximum public health advocacy. To build public awareness, Rtn. Okedeyi embarked on a media circuit across multiple networks—a campaign facilitated by the Honorable Commissioner for Information, Hon. Gbenga Omotosho.
The momentum culminated at the Rotary Club Learning Seminar in Lagos, where a pivotal meeting with Mr. Kayode Akintemi of News Central secured a key media partnership, guaranteeing continuous broadcast coverage and visibility throughout the ride.
Flag Off
The official flag-off ceremony for the #EmmaRidesForZeroPolio transcontinental expedition in the UK was hosted by the Croydon Airport Trust at the historic Croydon Airport Visitor Centre on May 26, 2026.The ceremony was led and supported heavily by Rotary International District 1145 (Rotary South) leadership.
Specifically, Mike Thorn, who serves both as the Rotary District Governor-Elect and the Chairman of the Croydon Airport Trust, joined other prominent Rotarians including Past District Governor (IPDG) Tim and District Rotary Foundation Chair Annemarie van Bochove.and DG Tunji Owoleye to commend the adventurer, Captain Olatunji Emmanuel Okedeyi, before his 12,200km transcontinental motorcycle ride from London to Lagos.

Polio House Welcome, Royal Audience & Club Leadership
Upon reaching the Rotary Centre Polio House, Rtn. Okedeyi was received at a celebratory gathering alongside members of the press and senior leadership, including “Impact” District Governor Layi Abidoye.
Shortly after, Rtn. Okedeyi returned to his hometown for a historic meeting with the Olubadan. Expressing strong support for the Zero Polio campaign, the traditional leader contributed a personal donation of £1,000, helping push the total funds raised to £5,000. On August 1st, Rtn. Okedeyi marked another significant milestone as he was inaugurated as the 10th President of the Rotary Club of Mushin Golden.
